Saturday night I had a hot date with this pretty lady. Sure, we “knew” each other but never really officially met. Maybe I had butterflies as I drove downtown to meet her for dinner. Maybe I didn’t. You can decide.
Not wanting to be late for our first date, I arrived early, found a seat at the bar and ordered a glass of wine (surprised? no? didn’t think so)![]()
Would we get along? Would she hate the restaurant I chose? What if she didn’t get my sense of humor? WHAT IF IT DIDN’T WORK OUT?!
Spoiler alert: it was love at first sight. I seriously wanted to kidnap Paula and keep her in Austin forever. Her & I could do some serious damage together. Which would need to be counteracted with a ridiculous amount of running.
We ordered a few appetizers off the happy hour menu at the Roaring Fork and I’m surprised we stopped talking long enough to shovel it in our faces. Somehow we made it happen though, and neither of us even got a picture of our food. Bloggers of the Year, I tell ya.
Post-dinner we headed down to Cedar Street Courtyard in the Warehouse District. On the way there, Paula took a billion pictures and I pretended not to know her
Just kidding.
The band hadn’t started yet so we made our way to the bar inside for a cocktail while we waited. This is where I introduced Paula to one of my dear friends, Loopy.
If you haven’t met this character yet, I highly recommend you do so. It’s fantastically delicious and tastes exactly like Fruit Loops. EXACTLY. I wouldn’t lie to you about this. Mix it with club soda. Drink happily. Thank me later.
At 9:30, Metal Shop took the stage.
In case you’re terrible at drawing conclusions, Metal Shop is a hair band that plays a ton of 80s covers. And they were AWESOME.
Seriously I had SO much fun. It’s been awhile since I’ve been out (you know, that whole running & P90X owning my life thing) so it was nice to spend the night downtown. Around 11:30 I couldn’t fight the exhaustion any longer (I’m getting old – apparently I can’t hang anymore) and decided to call it a night. Paula kindly offered to walk me to my car and it was the perfect ending to our first date.
Now I’m on a mission to convince her to either come back in January to run a huge PR at 3M or to move to Austin permanently. Or both. One of those.

Sounds like so much fun! I tried P90X once- it didn’t do much for me. How are you liking it??
I like it a lot! It’s the first time I’ve successfully followed a strength training routine (and lost a few pounds along the way!)
